Why You Need a Script Consultant

I can’t tell you how many writers fail to utilize the services of a script consultant before they take their script into the marketplace. HUGE mistake!

A script consultant is a KEY member of a screenwriter’s team. As a matter of fact, I don’t know a single, successful screenwriter who takes their script to market without having it analyzed by a consultant. Even if you’re a great writer with a great idea, you must have a marketable script worth selling.

_

EVERYONE thinks their script is the most original, never-been-seen mastery anyone has ever written. The question is, who agrees with that assessment? Besides family and friends (many who know nothing about screenwriting and selling a script), who else has read your script and assessed it in terms of story, structure, dialogue, characters, and marketability? Have you hired a consultant to give you an in-depth analysis and review of your script?

_

A script consultant is there to provide you with a professional, unbiased critique of your work. Whether you need a second opinion that it’s ready to be sent to out into the marketplace, or extensive assistance working out the problems, a script consultant will work with you and give you the coaching and feedback you need.

_

Considering the amount of time and effort you’ve personally put into your screenplay, and the amount of money you can potentially make if you get that script sold, hiring a consultant is a worthwhile and smart investment. You may only have one opportunity. Make sure you, and your script, are ready!

_

Many up and coming writers believe if they were able to find the right agent or producer, then life would be wonderful and they’d be within reach of their goal. That’s nothing but a fantasy! Are you ready for a dose of reality? Agents and producers are important only AFTER your script is ready to go out into the marketplace. That means, your script has to be appealing to agents and producers BEFORE it hits their desk.

-

A script consultant can’t guarantee your script will sell. They can, however, give you insight into its strengths and weaknesses, pinpoint where it needs work, and offer practical suggestions on how to fix any flaws it may have. The reason why many great stories and ideas never get sold is often due to the small things that could have easily been addressed. Make sure your story is in the best shape possible BEFORE putting it on the market.
